As we walk away from the Old Year . . .

As we walk away from the Old Year, we have time to reflect upon our ministry experiences and (most) all of us make new promises for the New Year. If you could tell us one event that shaped your ministry experience in 2005, what would the story be? Tell us and share your story, so we may all learn.

If you wish not to reveal your name, you always have the opportunity to post your story anonymously on our Blog.

May all of you and your family have a "HAPPY NEW YEAR"!

For me the question begs a question, i.e., will the church lead the world, or will the church continue to mix in and be led by the world. The telling event(s) of my ministry this year were as follows:

Observing Post-Modern Theology, Doctrine, Music and Behavior in mainstream American churches and Religous Organizations. [For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge].

Witnessing the continued corruption of the church, church teachings and leadership with venal and sophist politics. [Come out from among them...we are fellowcitizens with the saints and of the Household of God].

Witnessing priests (pastors and preachers and teachers) of major American denominations, churches and religous organizations in bed with politics and salacious politicians. [He who warreth does not entangle himself with the affairs of this life].

Witnessing the President conferring with American church leaders vs the righteous of God, in scripture, who would seek the Lord, before conveying a message to the King. [And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, There is yet one man, by whom we may enquire,of the Lord; but I hate him; for he never prophesied good unto me...]

Witnessing the worship of the American Idol by believers and non-believers alike (and I am not referring to the television show), in deference to a fervor for the things of God. How many will offer their lives and shape their beliefs to and for the things of God? [Thou shall have no other God before me, not even America as your idol].

Witnessing the reemergence of the spirit of the Pharisaism in our church, primarily through the actions of the well-meaning but misguided Religous Right leadership and the frustrations of the rank and file members. [Do as they say, but not as they do, but most of all return to God and his teachings to lead you].

Pat Robertson, Pat Robertson, Pat Robertson...[There is a way that seems right to a Man, but the ends thereof are the ways of death].

Witnessing the unprovoked church-sanctioned murders of innocent and undeserving citizens in Iraq by the United States Government, and a lack of desire for peace or peacemakers in the Middle East or in the Iraqi conflict by God's people. It appears that even the church (settled into the world) prefers a military solution than a peaceful solution from the Prince of Peace. [If my people who are called by my name would humble themselves and pray, seek my face and turn from their wicked ways...:].

Witnessing Hurricane Katrina, the Church and Politics mixed together: Ghettos in New Orleans and Ghettos that have persisted for years in America's mainstream churches and denominations. [Even as the churches grow richer, members of these churches continue to exist in squalor and reside in the terminal ghettoes of their churches].

Finally, witnessing the Teri Schiavo affair, the church and politicians. Mega-church ministries resided in the same state where Teri lay prone, yet even those local churches sought a political-medical solution, instead of God's solution. [Was not the power of the Lord present to heal in any of the large ministires in the region?]

Summary: Americans and the American institutionalized church is being coopted by zealots, idealogues and corrupt teachings. The remnant of God must be watchful, prayerful and cognizant of the spirit that might be infecting their church and its leadership.

For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. Roman 10:3.

In closing, I was recently in a discussion with a fomer christian who now describes himself as a true conserative. As he explains it, even the church and its dogma came into conflict with his new conservative belfiefs; he chose the latter and no longer attends church. Let us be watchful of the leaven
