There are many
times in our lives that we do things and act certain ways because of the
knowledge we have gained. It is this knowledge that guides our
performance, advancement, and success in our chosen vocations. The
military is no less subject to these observable phenomena or the mirror
of it which is action or knowledge without understanding.
As is many
jobs and lifestyles, people act or react to tasks in their job and
perform mechanical activities devoid of true understanding. This is true
of the practice of faith, religion, and Biblical understanding. That is
the point of this book. It brilliantly portrays the lives we lead devoid
of true understanding. Chaplain McCoy provides us with detailed
observations and correlates them to real life situations, situations that
must necessarily be dependent on understanding and not knowledge alone.
It is this
imperative that he expands on in a series of “orders” and utilizes them
to illustrate actual versus optimal judgment based decisions. In fact he
demonstrates how empty many of us are and poignantly paints a picture of
true wantonness in the people who secretly search for answers. His
“orders’ are guides for self examination and designed to focus our
thoughts and energies toward finding and understanding the truth about
ourselves in direct respect of Biblical laws and truths.
It truly is a
spiritual handbook and definitely accomplishes the desired target.
I would
highly recommend this book to anyone, not just military. If you are
searching for something but not sure what; If you have a hunger for
something better, something more pure and fulfilling, this book is a
great place to discover sound Biblical truths and personal growth.
