Once
upon a time…the beginning of so many beloved stories throughout the
ages. Years and years have gone by in which people who tell stories were
known as storytellers. Stories have been shared for centuries to
educate, to entertain, and to get various points across. In the book
“Telling the Story” by Luis Palau and Timothy Robnett, we begin to
understand what, when, where, why, how, and who the greatest storytellers
are.
The
greatest storytellers share and tell the greatest story of all, the story
of Jesus Christ. By all accounts the word of God in John chapter one
verse seven, “to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him
might believe.” Witness is defined as to see, hear, or know by
personal presence and perception. In the word of God we see the great
story, a story to be told, in “Telling the Story” authors Luis Palau and
Timothy Robnett, indeed share with us ways in which we can become
storytellers.
I
use the word storytellers to prove a point, the point that in many case
we become subject to fear. Often times people fear sharing a story
because of ridicule, or persecution. However Second Timothy chapter three
verse twelve reminds us that in order to live a godly life, in Jesus
Christ, we will be persecuted. To tell the story of Jesus Christ is to
become an evangelist. In this book, the authors share ways in which we
can step up to the plate as evangelists for the next generation.
As
communication is the key to any great relationship, we find communication
is again the key to becoming an evangelist. The one true purpose in God
creating man was companionship, and in companionship we find
communication. In sharing the word of God with others as an evangelist
we must be able to effectively communicate the Gospel. As an evangelist
one must know your audience, be able to clearly communicate the word, be
true to yourself and others about your own personal relationship with
Christ, allow time for the audience to accept Christ in an Invitation and
above all ALWAYS remain focused on Jesus Christ.
Share God’s story, the story of Love, the story of Hope, the story of
Faith, the story of how one man died for our sins. Evangelize, and know
that in today’s world, one may never know when an opportunity to
evangelize will present itself. So ask yourself, am I an evangelist? If
it sounds awkward then try asking yourself Am I a Storyteller? Then
simply take the next step and share the greatest story ever told, ever
written, and ever lived. The next time you choose to tell a story start
it with…”For God So Loved the World.”
