Ever wonder just how God gets people's
attention? Ever wonder what it would take to bring a man from the
basement of sin to the attic of righteousness? In Reconnecting the
Spirit Man, A Spiritual Journey Revealing God's Character, Thomas L.
Crain answers these questions. Mr. Crain is an ordained minister who
currently serves at Faith Temple Christian Center, a word of faith
church. Word of faith is a denomination which believes in the salvation
by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. They believe in the speaking of
tongues as a sign of the baptism of the Holy Spirit and the indwelling
of the Holy Spirit at the time of salvation.
The previous questions posed are answered by Mr. Crain through his
personal testimony. Much of the book is based upon his conversion of a
life of sin and it's impending destruction, to a life of holiness, which
by the grace of God, through his Son Jesus Christ brought Mr. Cain into
the realization that his survival depended upon this grace. I found Mr.
Cain's testimony to be quite moving and very motivating. The theme of
salvation is very apparent throughout this book, and in fact Mr. Crain
gives the sinner's prayer for those seeking God's grace and encourages
the reader to pray this prayer. Throughout this book, Mr. Crain leads
you through the story of his salvation and how God dealt with him. How
God lead him from fornication and drugs to a life of ministry and
humility.
Reconnecting the Spirit Man, was inspiring for me as a Christian. At one
point in the book, Mr. Cain details his fathers life of alcohol
addiction. Though his father was a sinner (some feared not even saved),
he had given his life to Christ and on his death bed, his last words to
his son were "I am going home" as he pointed to heaven. The impact of
this story on my life was profound, reassuring that no matter what sins
I have committed, God loves me enough and has forgiven me through Jesus
Christ his Son. I appreciated the personal touch that Mr. Crain gave to
the book.
All in all I would rate this book four stars. It was pretty easy reading
and only 69 pages. I would put the age level somewhere from High School
to the twenties or thirties. It seemed to be written for the younger
audience, but would resonate with any age group. The style of writing
was very straight forward and down to earth, easy to understand, but a
bit repetitive at times. His theology was sound, especially on the
method of salvation. There may however be some doctrinal conflict with
the reader depending upon denominational background (namely that of
speaking in tongues). As for this reader, I could find no fault in his
doctrine. His overall message was that of salvation and returning back
to God from a backslidden state. He does a good job giving the "how to"
obtain this relationship, the benefits received as a result, and gives
the tools needed to accomplish God's will for every person that none
should perish. I recommend this book for the struggling Christian to
give inspiration and hope, to the mature Christian to remind them of
where they came from and the infinite grace God has given, and to the
non-Christian to lead them to the path of righteousness. I feel blessed
to have read this book and consider it an honor to have reviewed this
work. May God bless you all.
