It seems the character ‘Gohan’ finds
trouble wherever he goes. Author Peter Hess weaves a tale that mirrors
that of everyday Christians, without all of the violence. He also
brings to light the plight of the persecuted around the world.
Gohan is a twenty-one year old that, while
very strong in his martial arts and soldiering, is very new to
Christianity. His fighting skills are comparable to someone with many
more years of training. Throughout this novel there are many parallels
with Gohan’s fights and battles and our lives as Christians. Usually,
our fights and battles come in self defense.
When being passive just
won’t work anymore we rise up as united Christians and take a stand.
The difference here is that Gohan is a one man stand. While we fight
the battles of keeping our country morally grounded, stopping abortion,
and securing Christians right to preach and worship, Gohan takes on
international crime syndicates as well as the personal side of being a
Christian. His faith, though ever growing, is one of his subjects of
torment. The other is love.
Gohan fights to build his faith while he
commits acts that your average Christian would never think of
committing. He struggles enough to make you want to pray for God to
guide him. His love interests, throughout, seem to be perfect for part
of Gohan, but not all of him. Though he and the ‘girls’ he swoops in to
rescue seem to fall in love, Gohan sticks to his values and keeps each
relationship pure. Peter Hess does a good job of making you care for
each character so much that, when they don’t end up together, it seems
a crime. His knack for sticking to the values makes you realize that
young Gohan is actually making the right decisions by not getting too
involved. Though it might seem romantic for the current twosome to hook
up, Gohan is definitely not ready.
‘International Intrigue’ is a fast paced
action adventure worth reading. It’s not every day that one gets a
chance to read a novel with worldwide crime, hand to hand combat,
spies, romance, and faith. Peter Hess is an author that I had
previously never heard of, but now I will look for his books. His
‘International Intrigue’ is a fine novel, one I stayed up all night to
read.
