What an encouraging book!! Mary J. Nelson allows the reader into her personal battle with breast cancer. From the initial diagnosis, all the way through the radiation treatments, she brings an understanding of the Lord's peace and promise to comfort us, always.

This was a true example of helping others through a difficult valley, filled with Scripture and truths that she learned, or re-discovered by her present difficulties. She truly laid it all on the line, honestly. The amount of time she took to share her story, along with her attitude of appreciating blessings, made her someone we should all aspire to be! How we react through trials and troubles shows our spiritual maturity, and Ms. Nelson is someone that we all could learn from, despite our age.
The book is comprised of 120 devotions, and reminds the reader to meditate and keep the Bible nearby while reading. At the back of the book is all the Scripture indexed by devotion. The devotions are all labeled according to what is in them. They are short enough to be easily read in just a few minutes, but have enough depth to ensure that the reader will get some Spiritual growth.

I think one of the most helpful devotions contained this wonderful reminder, " I was distressed when I would come to Him in prayer and feel no emotion or hear nothing but silence..... God's silence during my cancer journey taught me that every encounter with Him would not be a Pentecost moment. Oddly, the silence actually strengthened my faith. If every prayer time ended in fireworks proving God's presence, what good would my faith be?" The writer goes on to say that the silence serves to help us to seek Him more and keep us searching His presence.
This is the perfect book for any woman diagnosed, as it not only allows them to understand what may lie ahead, but more importantly, how to lean on the Lord to come through victoriously. It would also be helpful for the family and friends of someone that has been diagnosed.
