Jesus Christ is calling a generation utterly set apart for Him, a generation that worships Him, a generation radically in love with Him, a generation that will deny themselves, carry their crosses, and follow Him.  But what is worship?  What does it mean to worship?  How do we worship?  Too often today worship is confined within the walls of a church, within a Sunday morning.  Pilavachi and Borlase show us how much more than that worship truly is.

The authors say that God has made worship our highest priority.  We were created to worship God, and He has called us to a lifestyle of worship.  A lifestyle of worship, not a once-a-week worship.  Even on Sundays at church, the true meaning and true point of worship is sometimes lost.  Worship is giving God what He rightfully deserves, including.  Not only does He deserve our worship, He longs for it first and foremost.

All too often we forget who we are worshiping and instead focus on what songs we’re singing, who’s leading worship, how we are feeling, etc.  Too often worship is self-indulgent.  When we don’t feel happy and get chills during worship, afterwards we say, “I didn’t get much out of worship today.”  Pilavachi and Borlase show us in the book that it’s not about us.  It’s not about the music, although music is a form of worship.  It’s not about the people around you.  It’s about you, and God.  In the secret place. It’s about offering our bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to Him.  It’s about meeting with Him, fellowshipping with Him, cultivating a relationship of intimacy with Him.

Pilavachi and Borlase talk about many aspects of worship, including sacrifice, obedience holiness, healing, intercession, and spiritual warfare.  I liked that this book was short.  Sometimes it’s nice to be able to read a book in one sitting, which is what I did with this book.  I really like that it’s pocket-sized.  It’s good for underlining and writing in, and taking around to encourage and remind us to worship God in everything we do.  That is His call for us, and that is what these authors stress to.  My favorite quote from the book is: “If we are first all lovers of God, people who are devoted to praising and worshiping Him, then our deeds will be powered by the right motives.”  If we are first lovers of God and worshipers of God, everything else will follow.  God will work in us and through us.  And He receives all the glory.
