Carrie: Season of a
Second Chance is told by the main
characters’ daughter, Dorothy Lyons, about the life lessons learned by
Carrie from her childhood though adulthood. Carrie begins as an
innocent, hardworking young girl, determined to reach her goals, and
quickly leads to her young-adult years, where she’s faced with the
decision to follow her emotions or follow God’s leading. From there on
out, we see as Carrie toils over decisions, often times making wise
choices, and often times lead by fear and her emotions. She disobeys
God’s direct leading, and has to live with that choice, and the
consequences that come from her disobedience. Yet, she lives each day,
determined and strong in hope that God will take care of her, and guide
her.
If you’re looking for a
book that grabs a hold of you, pulls you in, emotionally, and won’t let
go until you’re finished reading, this is not the book for you. That is
not the style of writing that Dorothy Lyons chose for this particular
book. This story is written more of a biographical style, presenting the
facts in clear timeline, telling you of some emotions that were
experienced by the characters, but not really drawing you in to relate to
their feelings/situations. If a couple of chapters are read each day,
you’ll be able to learn a lot about the characters in the story, as well
as some good life lessons in perseverance, faith, and obedience to God.
Carrie:
Season of a Second Chance is a great book to
read for anyone who has ever disobeyed God, and wanders if God ever does
give second chances… if God does forgive… if God will give you a better
future, even if you didn’t chose His way earlier. In this book, we have
the opportunity to walk thru Carrie’s decisions, seeing how they affect
her life, as well as her children’s lives, and can easily compare it to
our own lives. Even after making wrong decisions, Carrie always returned
her eyes to her Lord, and asked for help and guidance, and was blessed to
see Him come through for her family.
Carrie’s story is
applicable for any age, as an enjoyable, encouraging, motivating, and
convicting book about persevering through trials and rough times in life,
and never loosing hope that God is there and will guide you.
