Did you ever wonder what exactly were some of the blessings that God had bestowed upon Israel and how they fit in to the Israel of today and tomorrow? This book attempts to answer in part some of this question. While many blessings are spelled out in the Bible for us to clearly understand, it is believed by many that the blessings also offer clues to blessings in the eschatological context. One of these such blessings hidden within the pages of scripture is the vast amount of oil hidden beneath the promised land, particularly within the land given to the tribes of Manasseh and Ephraim known as Joseph's head, and at the foot of Ashur.

This book, "Breaking the Treasure Code; The Hunt For Israel's Oil", was written in two parts or books, by two authors. The first book is a reprint of an original manuscript by James R. Spillman written in 1981 called "Treasures of the Deep". In this part of the book, Spillman begins to make the case for large hidden oil reserves in Israel. He begins by first introducing the importance and reliance of oil in our every day lives and the dependence that Israel has currently upon foreign oil. He then begins the process of interpreting scripture, the hidden codes if you will, that there is indeed large amounts of oil and natural gas reserves in Israel that would allow Israel to be self sufficient for up to 500 years. Once he proves his case, he then begins the eschatological impact that such a find would cause to its neighboring countries from a Biblical standpoint leading up to the return of Christ and Armageddon. In reading this portion of the book, I found it to be very informative and well thought out. I believe that
Mr. Spillman did an excellent job of making his case for his thesis. Although I didn't agree with all of his theology, namely the gap theory (some scholars believe there to be a gap of time between Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:2), I could find no fault with his interpretation of scripture and found his thesis to be quite interesting and entertaining. Also included in this section of the book is an update for specific items, current events, that have happened since the book was originally written, to support Mr. Spillman's thesis. I found that this addition to the book only added credibility to Mr. Spillman's findings.

The second section of the book, or book number 2, is the actual application of Mr. Spillman's findings written by Mr. Spillman's son. Here we find more of a recent historical account of people who have used the Bible to search for oil in Israel. One such person was John Brown, a wealthy businessman with no experience as an oil man. He founded Zion Oil and Gas Company. It gives the history of Mr. Brown's call by God into Christianity, and then the command to drill for oil in Israel. It is a very interesting testimony of how Mr. Brown was called and the subsequent events that followed as he began searching and then drilling for oil at the crown of Joseph's head.

The very end of the book wraps up both sections and puts them into perspective. Although the entire book was about finding wealth and fulfillment of God's promise in Israel, Spillman looks to the bigger picture. This picture being the fulfillment of God's purpose for mankind and specifically Israel and how oil would play a part in ushering in the second coming of Jesus Christ. He also makes it clear that God's ultimate purpose is in re-establishing a relationship with man through Jesus Christ and goes as far as explaining how a person is saved. The last appendices of the book details the calling and mission of Zion Oil and Gas.

Overall I found the book to be very informative and easy reading. It kept my attention as I read it in a day and a half. It did seem to lag a bit in the latter part of the book, but overall it was very good. I would categorize this book as informative and encourage people to read for entertainment. The book presents a very good perspective on current events in both Israel and the surrounding countries. All in all I would recommend this book to any one interested in the ongoing history of Israel and the overall plan of God.
