My fingertips left impressions on each page of this book as I held it tightly capturing every sentence and appreciating the parallel to my own life.  It was taxing on my brain but a defibulator for my heart.  The author’s message is timely as our society’s interest is heightened and swelling, asking what is our destiny. We question if we all have a purpose to fulfill and does it matter anyway.

Judy Rushfeldt is a master at word usage and clarity.  The book facilitates an archeological dig into the burial of our latent creativity. Although Ms. Rushfeldt has questions at the end of each chapter for personal reflection and for group discussion, a workbook would complement the book.

Usually Christian authors use only scriptural references which this writer does, but she also has many quotes from scholars, authors, and social leaders as well.  It is remarkable how they can be linked by a common issue of pursuing dreams and realizing a person’s destiny.  Many statements were from people unfamiliar to me and I felt guilty not recognizing their names or comprehending the significance of their inclusion.

Ms. Rushfeldt explains why the words, “purpose” and “destiny” can be scary.  Our passions are forfeited for what we perceive as more realistic and attainable goals.   We are afraid we will fail based on our lack of confidence and perhaps low self esteem.  Ms. Rushfeldt prods us to see why our vision has been blurred.  A significant question is who or what robbed us of our dreams.  Feeling incompetent, unworthy and blatantly criticized hinders our creative development and unrealized potential.

The author reiterates her point, driving it into our hearts, that God does have a purpose for our lives and we are wasting time with inhibitions.  The reader is asked to examine her relationship with God and her belief in His promises. If creativity has been birthed in our hearts, God’s will is for that talent to be used. Tenacity is also a gift which accompanies latent creativity. We stifle, avoid and deny our gifts while God patiently waits us out.

Christian women will be encouraged and enthused by this book to start their individual quests. Women who have not made a commitment to the Lord Jesus will be gently drawn to the end of the book where Ms. Rushfeldt completes this writing project with a prayer for them to accept Jesus as their savior and receive eternal life.  Newly committed Christian women will be able to apply God’s perspective to their decisions affirming their purpose and leading them to their destiny.

The book gives the opportunity and direction for interspeculation, and also could be utilized as a group study. Sharing dreams, uncovering the intrusive misconceptions, and being encouraged to nurture creative gifts can change and recharge ambitions. God is not finished with us yet and mediocrity is not His style.  Judy Rushfeldt convinces the reader that victory is inevitable when the true motivation is to honor God.

I would recommend Making Your Dreams Your Destiny to church supported groups, small study groups, and individual women who are ready to take a step of faith toward their true destiny
