Spirit Restoration is a Christian ministry reaching a potentially worldwide ecumenical Christian readership through a general interest web site. We hope to encourage listening, dialogue and learning among a broad range of Christians by offering reviews of new and classic books; articles and essays of topical interest to a general Christian readership; regular features on family, finances, well-being, and youth; and a message board. We also offer resource listings; hyperlinks to other sites of interest; and shopping mall.

Book reviews will be accepted from reviewers with an appropriate background to address the subject matter being treated. Such reviews will state succinctly what the book says and note the weaknesses or omissions in the text. They will describe how the book compares or differs from others on the same subject.

Contents of a review include:

  • The key elements of the book;

  • What, if anything, is fresh, controversial or special;

  • Something about the author.

  • Your sense of who might be the most likely audience for this book.

Reviews may range from 500 words upward. Short informational reviews may range up to 250 words. Completed reviews should be in the hands of the editor three (3) weeks from the date the date of receipt of the book or other item to be reviewed. Exceptions may be negotiated at the time of the assignment. Failure to complete a review may jeopardize the ability of Spirit Restoration Ministries to obtain review copies and will result in the reviewer's being dropped from the standing list of reviewers.

ORIGINAL MATERIAL

Feature Articles, from 1,000 to 8,000 words in length, are interesting and highly readable essays that seek to explore and clarify particular topics of interest to our readers. They may include first-person reports of events (lectures, conferences and conventions), popular treatment of difficult theological concepts, analysis of social or other public policy issues from a Christian perspective, interviews or guest commentaries.

Scholarly papers introduce and develop a thesis and provide solid argumentation that leads to one or more conclusions. They are precise, focused, formal, and above all critical. Papers should be presented in an objective manner that an unbiased reader would find persuasive. Preference is given to narrow topics rather than broad generalizations.

GUIDELINES for INCLUSIVE and EXPANSIVE LANGUAGE

spiritrestoration.org will be read by a wide spectrum of Christians. We expect our readers to be challenged, but at the same time, not to be unduly offended.

Inclusive language should be used in reference to people. Gender-specific language may be used when referring to either a male or to a female. When both genders are included, or the gender is unspecified, language should be used which does not specify only the male gender, unless sentence construction alternates between the two genders. Examples of appropriate inclusive language are: One, him/her, people, person. Perhaps the best non-gender-specific second person usages are "them", "their", and "theirs", as recognized by the Oxford English Dictionary (Unabridged).
